Add on the ultimate experience to your Cook Islands holiday and experience the ‘Aitutaki Day Tour’.
Aitutaki is the quintessential South Pacific Island that you may have visualised reading Robinson Crusoe or Mutiny on the Bounty. It is one of the twenty ‘jewels of the world’ as described by Richard Attenborough, and is only a 40 minute flight from Rarotonga. The lagoon is on a magnitude 100 times the scale of Rarotonga, and offers shades of Sea Blue that you can’t imagine unless you experience it.
The day tour encapsulates all that Aitutaki has to offer – one of the world’s most magical lagoons. It was the location where the very first ‘Survivor’ series was filmed, and also where the Air New Zealand and Pan AM flying boats used to land en-route between New Zealand/Australia and Hawaii known as “The Coral Route”.
The day tour leaves Rarotonga around 8am, and the pilots fly low over the lagoon to give you the ultimate experience. Once there, you get a quick tour of the island and then you’re on the water for the rest of the day. You will be on and off the boat snorkelling and swimming with the aquarium of fish, and will experience landing on several (motus) sand banks and islets, including One Foot Island. How it gets its name is best kept a secret until you get there! The boat crew will keep you entertained with their Cook Islands humour and hospitality, and they will get you back in time to catch your late afternoon flight back to Rarotonga.
